Method One: Using the Internet Archive Website
The step-by-step instructions for using The Internet Archive website to submit recordings to The CalonSound Project.
If you have not already done so, set up an account at The Internet Archive. The Internet Archive is “a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was founded to build an Internet library, with the purpose of offering permanent access for researchers, historians, and scholars to historical collections that exist in digital format”. It is reliable and free, with virtually unlimited storage and bandwidth, with institutional sponsors such as HP and the Library of Congress. If you ever want your files removed, it is as easy as sending an email from the email account you registered with and requesting that they be removed.
Make sure that you are logged in, then click the Upload button next to the login area:
This will bring up Step 1 of 2:
Enter your real name and the title of your work in CamelCase, that is, in the form RealNameMySong.
(This may seem odd, but it works best)
This will bring up Step 2 of 2:
We will go over this page in sections.
The first section (above) is the information about your work. As you can see, the Title has been filled in with the information you entered on the first page. The Description and Keyword(s) are mandatory; fill in something meaningful for Description, and be sure to put “calonsound” and either “story”, “song”, “poem”, or “instrumental” in the Keyword(s) so that The CalonSound Project can catalogue your work. Finally, the Author is optional but we highly recommend that you fill this area in with either your real name or your SCA name, depending on how you want people to search for your work.
The next section is the Creative Commons License:
The CalonSound Project will only catalogue works using a Creative Commons License.
Click Choose license. This will bring you to the Creative Commons Choose A License screen:
The recommended settings are shown in the example above, but feel free to follow the More info links to learn about all the options. When you are finished, click the Select a License button.
This screen shows you the license you have selected. Make sure this is what you want, then click on Proceed
This returns you to the Step 2 of 2 screen, and displays the selected license.
In the final section you will browse your computer and select the File to upload. Although you can upload more than one file here, they would all upload under the single title/identifier that you chose at the beginning and that would make things very confusing. The best practice is to upload only one file at a time.
Select (audio) as the Type of item, leave This is a test item unchecked, and click on the Upload files button.
Your file will be uploaded to the Internet Archive and you will be given a link to its permanent location. You can share this link with anyone you wish. The CalonSound Project will automatically find your newly uploaded file on its next search.
